MICHAEL WALTRIP WINS GOODY'S 300 POLE AT DAYTONA

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Michael Waltrip Tuesday won his second
straight Busch Pole Award for the Goody's 300 NASCAR Busch Series,
Grand National Divisions race to be held on Saturday at Daytona
International Speedway.

Waltrip kept Daytona 500 pole winner Dale Jarrett from
sweeping the top starting spots for Speedweeks' two biggest events
when he ran .006-seconds faster than Jarrett. Waltrip was clocked
at 185.326 mph in his Pennzoil Pontiac Grand Prix, while Jarrett
ran 185.303 in his MAC Tools Ford Thunderbird.

Rounding out the top five qualifiers were Jeff Green,
Waltrip's boyhood friend who drove the Goodwrench Service Chevrolet
Monte Carlo that has won the last five Goody's 300s, in the hands
of Dale Earnhardt; Mike McLaughlin in the French's/Black Flag
Chevrolet; and Jeff Purvis in the Kodak Chevrolet.

Also at the 2.5-mile Speedway, two 32-car lineups were set for
Thursday's Gatorade Twin 125-Mile Qualifying Races for the Daytona
500; and defending NASCAR Goody's Dash Series champion Will Hobgood
captured the top starting position for Friday's Florida 200.

Hobgood ran a lap of 161.847 mph in the Wynn's Oil Co. Pontiac
Grand-Am to nip two-time Florida 200 winner Larry Caudill, who
clocked 161.760 in the Husqvarna Dodge Daytona.

Canadian Randy MacDonald ran the fastest lap in third-round
qualifying for the Daytona 500, 185.345 mph, in the Big V Drug
Stores Pontiac.

On Wednesday, final qualifying will be held for the NASCAR
Busch and Dash Series cars; practice will be held for the NASCAR
Winston Cup, Busch and Dash Series; and for the the True Value
Dodge IROC XIX Series; and the starting lineup for Friday's Round
One of True Value Dodge IROC XIX will be drawn. For information
