SPEEDWEEKS OPENS WITH ARCA, IROC PRACTICE

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Speedweeks '95 opened Wednesday at Daytona
International Speedway as ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde Supercar Series teams and
the True Value Dodge IROC Avengers practiced for some six hours at the
2.5-mile superspeedway.

IROC test drivers Dave Marcis, Jim Sauter and Dick Trickle participated
in the testing, along with Dodge IROC XIX competitors Steve Kinser,
Steve Millen, Jeff Gordon and Hurley Haywood; along with USAC Silver
Crown champion Jimmy Sills, who tested the cars thanks to his series
champion's status.

Defending Daytona ARCA 200 winner Mike Wallace posted the fastest
practice speed among the 54 entries for Sunday's 32nd annual ARCA
season-opener. Wallace was clocked at 193.899 mph in his Duron Paints
Ford. Veteran Bob Schacht was close behind with a lap of 193.587 in the
Engineered Components Thunderbird.

Rounding out the five best practice speeds were Andy Hillenburg in Ken
Schrader's Air Orlando Chevrolet, 191.014; Doug Reid in the Long-Lewis
Ford, 190.678; and '93 Daytona ARCA 200 winner Jeff Purvis in the
Delco-Remy Chevrolet, 190.569.

"I think we've got a pretty good shot at the pole, because the car's
running pretty good," said Schacht. "We only ran four or five laps
today. We tested here (in December) at 190 and ran over 193 right off
the truck today, so we should be in pretty good shape."

The day was marred by two single car incidents that resulted in no
driver injuries. Veteran Bob Brevak crashed in turn four, badly damaging
his Scaffidi/CONCOR Ford. The team was undecided about trying to truck
another car in from its shop in Ohio.

Former STP-Prestone Rookie of the Year Frank Kimmel cut down a tire and
hit the wall between turns three and four, but Kimmel said the team
could make repairs, at the very least in time for Sunday's 1:15 p.m.
event.

Meanwhile, entries continue to flow into the NASCAR offices for the
other events of Speedweeks. Sixty-six entries have been received to date
for the Feb. 19 Daytona 500, 55 cars have entered the Feb. 18 Goody's
300 NASCAR Busch Series event and 44 cars have entered the Feb. 17
Florida 200 NASCAR Goody's Dash Series opener.

Among the Daytona 500 hopefuls, car owner Billy Hagan announced that
Canadian Late Model ace Randy MacDonald of Oshawa, Ontario, would drive
his Hagan Racing Pontiac during Speedweeks. RaDiUs Motorsports announced
that Ben Hess of Wadsworth, Ohio, would be its Ford Thunderbird for
Speedweeks, although originally listed Winston Cup driver Tim Fedewa
would still wheel the D-R Racing Enterprises Ford in the Goody's 300.

Sixteen drivers will draw for their starting positions for Sunday's
Busch Clash of '95 at a media brunch on Thursday morning. Defending
Clash winner Jeff Gordon, five-time Clash winner Dale Earnhardt, Bill
Elliott, Geoff Bodine, Loy Allen, Ward Burton, Greg Sacks, Rick Mast,
Rusty Wallace, defending Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin, Mark
Martin, Ricky Rudd, Ted Musgrave, Todd Bodine, David Green and Jimmy
Spencer are expected to attend the drawing. The Busch Clash begins at
noon on Sunday.

Advance reserved seat tickets for the Busch Clash/ARCA 200 doubleheader
are available now at the Daytona Ticket Office, for $50 each. All
other seats are unreserved and will sell for $35 each on race day. For

Also on Thursday, IROC, ARCA and NASCAR Winston Cup Busch Clash practice
will be held, along with Talladega Pole Qualifying fo r the top 20
starting postions in the Daytona ARCA 200, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
