TEAM TOYOTA GB has announced its challenge in the 1995 Auto Trader
RAC British Touring Car Championship, with the backing of a major new
sponsor, Mobil 1.
The challenge will involve British-built Carina Es raced by arguably the
strongest all-British driver line-up as Surrey-based Julian Bailey (33)
is joined by last year's team mate, Yorkshireman Tim Sugden (29).
Team Toyota GB's Michelin-equipped Carina Es will be engineered and
developed buy the Toyota Team Europe (TTE) motorsport centre in
Cologne - whose technical expertise is behind the marque's World Rally
Championship successes. TOMS GB, based at Hingham, Norfolk, will assume
responsibility for on-event preparation co-ordinated overall by Team
Toyota GB's motorsport manager, Paul Risbridger.
The '95 Carina E race car will make its public debut in its new livery
at the Performance Motor Show at Olympia, 9-12 February,
1995. The two car team will contest all of the thirteen touring
car meetings, starting at Donnington Park on 2 April, 1995.
Motorsport manager Risbridger is confident that the Toyota line-up is
set for honours in this year's championship:
"Regulation changes this year have permitted the development of a
more aerodynamic Carina E, equipped with front and rear spoilers.
Successful wind tunnel testing has highlighted significant improvements
and with the new team structure, TOMS' BTCC experience and the technical
expertise of a World Rally Championship winners TTE, we fully expect to
be on the podium this season."
