The Toyota Team Europe (TTE) motorsport centre in Cologne, Germany, is
providing technical expertise for Team Toyota GB's assault on the 1995
Auto Trader RAC British Touring Car Championship.
TTE has been incredibly successful in the World Rally Championship
taking top honours in 1993 and 1994. On 21 September, 1993 it entered
the record books as the first Japanese car maker to take motorsport's
toughest competition for production cars when it secured the World
Rally Championship for Manufacturers, followed a few weeks later by the
Drivers' title for Juka Kankkunen.
The marque's history in the Championship started on the 1972 RAC Rally
when leading driver, Ove Anderson, took a 140bhp Toyota Celica Coupe to
a class win. Subsequently, Toyota assisted Andersson to set up the rally
team which grew into a custom-built headquarters in Cologne during the
late 1980s.
This was further expanded and a new facility, doubling the space at
the TTE headquarters, opened in 1994. Toyota Team Europe accommodates
the most up-to-date equipment for the Team's technicians, designers,
mechanics and organisational personnel. It features the latest CAD
equipment to 4WD rolling roads, advanced engine dynos and an extensive
research and development section.
Some 200 strong staff are based at Cologne where in 1995 they will
assist the Team Toyota GB's challenge on the British Touring Car
Championship.
