THE Pacific Grand Prix, which was scheduled to take place in Japan
on April 16, has been postponed until October by the Federation
Internationale de L'Automobile (FIA), in a revised 1995 Formula One
calendar issued yesterday.

The Pacific race could not go ahead because of damage caused to
communications around the circuit at Aida, resulting from the recent
earthquake at Kobe. The race is now planned for Oct 22, as the first
part of a double-header with the Japanese Grand Prix at Suzuka, which
precedes the last race of the season, the Australian Grand Prix at
Adelaide.

As a result of the postponement, the Argentine Grand Prix has been
shifted from its season-opening date of March 12 to April 9. This means
that the world championship will begin with the Brazilian Grand Prix in
Sao Paulo on March 26.

It will be followed two weeks later by the Argentine Grand Prix in
Buenos Aires, before the grand prix circus transfers from Latin America
back to Europe for the San Marino race at Imola on April 30. Four of the
scheduled 16 races remain unconfirmed, as final approval of the tracks
has not been granted. The races concerned as those in Brazil, Argentina,
Imola and Monza.

The Pacific Grand Prix will also require final confirmation of its new
date from the Japanese Automobile Federation. If any other race fails to
take place, an event will take place in Budapest on Aug 13.
