Benetton launched the defence of Michael Schumacher world title
in Treviso, Italy, on Monday, when it officially unveiled the
Benetton-Renault B195. Johnny Herbert will drive the second B195
alongside Schumacher, while Jos Verstappen stays with Benetton as test
driver.

Interesting rear aerodynamics are the most visibly-novel feature of the
B195, from Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn's design team. Otherwise the car is
an evolutionary step on from the championship-winning B194.

Benetton Formula managing director Flavio Briatore announced that the
title sponsorship with Mild seven and Japan Tobacco had teen extended
until the end at 1996. The team will also enjoy support from Bitburger
beer and the German RTL TV network.

Williams and Renault have won the past three constructors'
championships. and the Regie ruffled a few feathers with its three-year
Benetton deal last season. Renault Sport president Patrick Faure vowed
that the company would be equal in its approach to both teams.

The reasoning behind the partnership was explained by Faure. "We really
admire Briatore and what he has done in turning Benetton into one of the
top teams in F1. He has been an excellent enemy, so to speak."

Schumacher briskly shook down a Benetton-Renault at Silverstone last
week, but poor weather and electronic problems spoiled the run.

"Basically it was just one of those newness difficulties you are bound
to come across," explained Benetton technical director Ross Brawn of the
shakedown, "and far better to get it out of the way before Jerez, where
we run in anger next week."
