MAY DAY SHOOT OUT AT SNETTERTON.
Britain's premier series moves to Norfolk.

Plenty of top class Bank Holiday entertainment is guaranteed next Monday
(2 May) when Snetterton hosts its only round of this country's most
popular and spectacular race series, the 1994 Auto Trader RAC British
Touring Car Championship.

More than 50,000 race fans flocked to Thruxton and Brands Hatch to
watch the opening rounds of this year's thrilling 21-race BTCC series;
millions more have caught the action on television.

Alfa Romeo has taken the opening honours with former Grand Prix racer
Gabriele Tarquini notching up a hat-trick of early season victories.
Flying Scot John Cleland is leading the home guard and he's certainly
not surrendering to the Italians.

The Vauxhall ace has already bagged two seconds and a third - now
he's gunning for outright victory in Norfolk. "Snetterton is a very
different kind of circuit to either Thruxton or Brands - it should
suit my Vauxhall. It's my aim to upset the Alfa apple cart. What ever
happens, you can always count on me to give my very, very best," he
says.

Andy Rouse, currently thrid in the championship, is another with his
sights firmly set on victory. The Ford Mondeos raced by himself and Kiwi
Paul Radisich were pre-season favourites but neither has won... yet.

Expect the Toyota Carinas of Will Hoy, Julian Bailey and Tim Sugden also
to perform well in Norfolk. The official Toyota team is based just down
the road in Hingham, so this is its local circuit.

Renault is starting to mount a serious challenge too. Last time out, the
smart new Lagunas of Alain Menu and Tim Harvey were right on the pace;
however, both retired when top three finishes looked on the cards.

Other manufacturers seeking glory in East Anglia's most prestigious
annual motor sport event include last year's champions (and Snetterton
victors) BMW, Peugeot, Mazda, Nissan and Volvo... the Swedes, of course,
have grabbed the headlines by racing a pair of intriguing 850 Estates.

As well as this unprecedented tally of ten official factory-backed
teams, more than half a dozen enthusiastic privateers will also be
lining up on Monday's packed grid; they are competing for honours - not
to mention a bumper GBL50,000 prize fund - in the Total Cup.

What's more, on top of the BTCC highlight, spectators are also promised
a full supporting bill of high quality action featuring a superb array
of one-make saloon and single seater racing. In other words, the scene
is all set for a great May Day's racing.

Last year's corresponding fixture drew a huge crowd - more than 20,000
fans crammed into the region's only race track. This Bank Holiday
the organisers are taking special precautions to alleviate traffic
congestion.
