AUSTRALIAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP, ROUND 2, SANDOWN PARK, 06/03/94.

After the tightness of Amaroo the wide open spaces of Sandown Park
provided welcome breathing space for the V8's.  

Mark Skaife was struck down by mechanical problems before the dash
and had to sit it out, automatically taking sixth place.  In his
absence John Bowe scorched to a win in the dash, to break up the
monotony of Skaife's domination, although it was only to be temporary.

After starting sixth in heat one Skaife blew the field apart to win
the first heat.  The second heat was won in a similar fashion.  Once
Skaife hit the front he looked untouchable.  After such shattering
performances his rivals are apparently becoming a little suspicious,
but the sheer speed of the man at Sandown was truly amazing.

Larry Perkins grabbed a great second place in heat 2, the 1992 Toohey's
1000 winner looking to be in the best ATCC form he has been in for 
years.

An added bonus for Australian viewers was the appearance of BBC F1
commentator Murray Walker as a guest commentator for heat 2.  That
made my day, and Murray's conversation with Dick Johnson as he was
throwing the Shell FAI Falcon around Sandown was one of the most
amusing things I have seen and heard in ages.  The only way the
commentary could possibly have been better would be to have Darrell
Eastlake in the box with Murray...  Darrell may be unknown to 
overseas racefans, but, I tell you, HE commentates... :)
