AUSTRALIAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP, ROUND 4, PHILLIP ISLAND, 10/04/94.
Round 4 provided some of the best racing so far in the series. A wet
track in heat 1 saw storming drives from Glenn Seton and Mark Skaife
after starting in the pits. Ford broke through to win it's first heat
of the championship, the two heat wins by John Bowe at the Surfers
Paradise Indycar GP were non-championship events.
By heat 2 the track was drying out and Seton starting from pole took
advantage of that to lead from start to finish. Lone time crowd hero
and motor racing legend Peter Brock now back with the general drove an
immaculate race but Seton was just too good. Neil Crompton made a
superb start and was in second for some time until a promising drive
was nipped in the bud with a penalty for jumping the start.
And so Mark Skaife's stranglehold on the series was finally broken.
Last year's champion Glenn Seton broke through for a welcome overall
points win, so maybe the championship still has some life in it yet.
The duel between tyre manufacturers in the changing track conditions
highlighted the superb racing rubber Bridgestone is supplying to
Brock and Mezera. All in all, some great racing. Roll on Lakeside!
