September 17 - Michael Andretti announces his return to IndyCar racing after just 13 F1 races (1993).

September 18 - Dan Gurney drives a Ford powered Lola T70 to victory in the first Can-Am event at Bridgehampton. This was Ford's only Can-Am win (1966).

September 19 - J.M. Fangio II is born (1956).

- Nigel Mansell clinches the CART IndyCar Championship becoming the first man to win the F1 and IndyCar titles back-to-back (1993).
