After 24 laps the race is red flagged because of heavy rainfall.
22 laps were counted for full points. (full distance = 29 laps)
Until then Jorg Muller has a comfortable gap of 8.5 seconds to
Marc Goossens.
Polesitter was Tom Kristensen, beside him Christian Pescatori,
followed by Marc Goosens and Jorg Muller in second row.
Kenny Brack fifth, Marcos Gueiros sixth, Oliver Tichy, Christophe
Tinseau, Cyrille Sauvage and Christiano da Matta completed the top
ten. Thomas Biagi failed at the 107% rule.
Goossens has a superb start. In his mirrors are Kristensen and Brack
for the first two laps. In third lap Muller gets past Brack. The
Swede drops behind Pescatori to fifth position later. Muller snatches
second place from Kristensen in lap seven and one lap later he takes
the lead by outbraking Goosens. Austrian Oliver Tichy is in sixth
position with view on his second point, until he gets overrun by the
Frenchmen Tinseau and Sauvage. Brazilian Maros Gueiros, still sixth,
goes straight through in the Bus Stop Chicane. That brings him to a
pit stop and throws him back one lap to 15th position.
Next round 14 September Magny-Cours.
