SENNEKER GETS 5TH AT MILWAUKEE MILE
August 25, 1996
Milwaukee Mile
Finished: 5th Started: 7th (31.279, 115.093 mph)
During practice for the Badgerland 150, Bob was 3rd quickest. At the start
of the race, Bob fell to 10th when Mike Eddy had motor problems and a
traffic jammed ensued on the first lap. When the first caution flew on lap
7, but was still running 10th, driving cautious with the track surface being
an unknown. Bob continued on running in 10th, until the 2nd caution flew at
the 25th lap. When some of the leaders pit, Bob moves up to 8th place. The
race goes green at lap 32,he moves the Lane Automotive/JR Automation/Mr.
Gasket Ford Thunderbird into 7th place on lap 36. Bob notifies ASA that the
track in turn 1, is tearing up real bad and the track takes the blower out
to clean it. When the 3rd caution flis at lap 48 for debris, Bob comes to
the sevice of the ASA fastest crew, changes 4 tires and takes on fuel.
Milwaukee is the only track on the series where 4 tire stops are allowed
under caution. After the pitstops were made Bob was running 16th. The green
came out on the 58th lap, by lap 62 Bob was up to 13th, the next lap he
slips back to 15th. Working his way back to 14th at lap 71. The 4th caution
waves at lap 72, as the leaders pit that moves Bob up to 4th behind the
leader Raines, Cywinksi and Sommers. At every one of the cautions, Bob is
concerned and persistant that the track officials blow the stones out of the
racing groove. When the race goes green at lap 76, Bob quickly goes into 3rd
place, he runs in 3rd until Sensiba passes for 3rd at lap 91. Over the next
6 laps, Bob and traded the 3rd spot back and forth twice until Sensiba takes
3rd for good at lap 97. The car seems to run better under long green flag
runs. When the 7th caution waves at lap 134, the green waves at lap 140 with
a 10 lap dash for the cash. Bob motors under Sensiba for 3rd at lap 147, on
lap 148 smoke begin to come from the rear of the car, the source of the
problem is a mystery as Sensiba and Garvey get by Bob on the white flag lap.
Bob makes a great move at the start finish line to hold off Loney for the
5th spot. "The smoke coming from the car was a right rear wheel bearing that
we smoked there at the end, the wheel is bearely hanging on. I had smoke in
the car, and knew we broke something, but didn't know what; it was spooky",
said Senneker. "We were fortunate to hang on. I don't think we could have
made another lap without the wheel falling off". The next race is the
"Miller Genuine Draft 300" at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds Speedway in
Minneapolis, there will be no television or radio coverage of this event.
Senneker maintains his 3rd position in points but is only 51 behind the leader.
