FULLEN TAKES HOOSIER LOTTERY 100
By Dave Hascall
ANDERSON, Ind. (Aug 24)----Ray Fullen scored the final leg of the Hoosier
Lottery Triple Crown Series at the Anderson Speedway, Saturday. The
series, for the Hoosier Park Late Models, offers its own unique, separate
points race with grueling 100 lap races. You could say that Fullen
“smoked” the competition, more literally than figuratively. Jim Cooper
showed the way early, but a spinning Jeff Lane caught Cooper and Jim lost
several laps in the pits. Fullen assumed the lead over Bobby Fields and
Orie Parkhurst. Fields race was stopped after a tire went down. Brian
Rievley moved to second and Vic Hellis to third by lap 63. Fullen nearly
lapped the entire field, during this run. Suddenly, observers began to
notice a glowing left rear brake rotor on Ray’s mount. The corner caught
fire, but Fullen soldiered on. The fire extinguished itself on lap 90.
Lap 92 saw Hellis pass Rievley on the outside for second. Fullen won
over Hellis, Rievley, Parkhurst and Al Grogg.
Herb Rose drove by polesitter Terry Malone at the start of the 15 lap Big
Lots Figure-8 main. Gene Huston was crashed on the start and could not
continue. Tom Gossar and Mike Cain crashed out of 3-4 on lap 3. Rose
won over Chris Bair, Malone, Joe McKenny and Rod Phipps. Phipps and
McKinney won heats.
Steve Jackson passed early leader James Gann and went on to win his first
Street Stock “A” main. Danny Whitaker was a close second over Gann,
David Garrity and points leader Wayne Young. Shawn Ellis took his first
feature, the “B” main. He won over Bob Jeffries, Billy Doggett, Gary
Moore and Mike Fredricks. Gann, John Rose, Moore and Danny Stanley, Jr.
won the heats.
