The Super Sprints ran at Lincoln Speedway this past Saturday night
along with the Armaclad KARS Sprint cars and Thundercars.

Kevin Gobrecht looked like the man to beat after picking up three spots
at the drop of the green. Kevin picked up two more spots, moving him to
7th after two laps. The yellow flag flew after the completion of two
laps for Jeff Rohrbough and Chris Eash as they tangled in turn four. Eash, who
leads the battle for the track championship was unable to continue.
Gobrecht was moved back to 8th for the restart.

Brian Monteith continued to lead the way in the 12B car but Keith
Kauffman was able to put on the pressure by the mid point in the race.
Kauffman passed Monteith for the lead on lap thirteen. After 15 laps
the order was Kauffman, Monteith, Wentz, Kreitz, and Cliff Brian.
On lap 22, Kevin Gobrecht spun in turn four, having been in a fierce
battle with both of the Brian brothers, Cliff and Billy. The yellow
flag allowed Don Kreitz to close the gap that Kauffman had put between
himself and the rest of the field.

As Don said in the victory lane interview, he never would have won
the race without the yellow for Gobrecht's spin. Don also said that
he was still experiencing some pain from his mid-season accident and
that it would be two weeks before he was back to 100 percent. This is
Don's third week back since his return and it's good to see he didn't
forget the way to victory lane.

In other sprint news:

Bob Beidleman is back after a mid-season accident put him out
for a few weeks.

I heard that Jac Hauldschild is back in the #22 Pennzoil WoO car.
He was not listed in the results for Elma Speedway, Elma, Washington
on Friday night (8/23).

Fred Rahmer won the sprint feature saturday night at Selinsgrove, PA.
Finishing second was Dave Calaman.

Todd Shaffer won the feature at Port Royal, PA. on saturday night.

Don't forget the 100th Anniversary of oval track racing on September 7, 1996.
The first oval track race was held September 7, 1896 at the Narragansett
Park Speedway located near Cranston, RI. Please ask your local tracks to
mention this date. Please contact me if you need background information
on this event. There is a ceremony scheduled for Cranston, RI on Sept. 7th.
and several tracks from around the nation are participating by sending
a representative in the track's pace car.
