SCCA-WC: Road America report 


PILGRIM SCORES S2 WIN WHILE ALLEN PLACES 10TH; THEISS TAKES T1; GALATI
TOPS SCHWARTZOTT IN T2


ELKHART LAKE, Wis. -- Andy Pilgrim, of Cooper City, Fla., scored his
first SCCA World Challenge S2 class victory as he took his #1 Rohr
Motorsports Porsche 911 GT2 to the win after taking the lead on lap 14
at Road America.


The race's early leaders were Martin Snow, in the #56 Snow Racing
Porsche 911 GT2, and Almo Coppelli, in the #00 Callaway SuperNatural
Corvette LM. On the last corner of the 14-turn, 4.0-mile course, Snow
made an inside move on Coppelli and the cars came together, putting both
cars off course and well back in the combined S2, T1 and T2 class field.


Pilgrim retained his inherited lead until the end, while behind him
Shane Lewis, in the #19 Mosler Intruder, and Steve Saleen, in the #55
Saleen/Allen Racing Saleen Mustang, traded second place before finishing
second and third.


Tim Allen, star of Home Improvement, drove his #75 Saleen/Allen Racing
Saleen Mustang to a 10th-place finish after starting 15th.


Lewis, of Jupiter, Fla., moved into the S2 class points lead with his
second-place finish while Coppelli dropped to second after finishing
seventh. Lewis tops Coppelli 172 to 165, followed by Saleen, 129; Doc
Bundy, 123; and Steve Dinan, 123.


In the T1 Class, the win went to Greg Theiss, driving the #32 Archer
Motorsports Eagle Talon AWD Turbo. Theiss took the lead on lap 18
when Kermit Upton, in the #25 Warsteiner/MASR BMW M-3, and Dennis
Aase, in the #74 AASCO Performance Toyota Supra Turbo, came together
on lap 18. Theiss held the lead to the finish, with Mark Simo, in the
#9 Special Vehicle development Ford Mustang Cobra, and Don Bootes, in
the #71 Mostly Mazdas Mazda RX-7 Turbo, finishing second and third,
respectively.


In the T2 Drivers' Championship, Theiss' victory propels him to the top
of the standings with 164, one point ahead of Lou Gigliotti, with 163.
Willy Lewis is third with 151 points, followed by Upton, 151, and Peter
Cunningham, 112.


The T2 class win was taken by Mike Galati, driving the #44 RealTime
Racing Honda Prelude Si. Galati passed early leader Peter Schwartzott,
in the #41 Buffalo Motorsports Honda Prelude Si, to take a lead he would
not surrender and claim his first T2 class win. Taz Harvey, in the #8
Dublin Honda/Redline Oil Honda Prelude Si and Terry Borcheller, in the
#49 Co's International BMW M-3, finished second and third, respectively,
while Schwartzott finished fourth.


Harvey's second keeps him in the T2 Drivers' Championship points lead,
topping Alain Chebeir by 10, 144 to 134. Galati holds the third spot
with 126, followed by Paul Booher, 114, and Booher's ICY Racing/Quaker
State Saturn SC teammate David Rosenblum, 113.
