BARBER DODGE, ROAD AMERICA FIRST QUALIFYING
ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (Aug. 16) - Barber Dodge Pro Series times, first qualifying
session, Friday morning 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. local time, 4.0-mile, 14-turn road
course. All cars on new Goodyears; conditions sunny and relatively cool; track
condition good. Qualifying record was 2:16.674, set by Fredrik Larsson, June of
1995.
     Second (final) qualifying is Saturday, 9:00 a.m. Eastern.

NOTES:
Larsson was quickest early on, and was the only driver in the 17s for much of
the session. With 6 minutes to go, Schie put up his time, with what looked like
a well timed tow up the front straight. On the next lap, however, Mastronardi
put in his flyer to take the overnight pole. If it holds tomorrow, it will be
the young Italian's first Barber Dodge pole position. Moser and George Frazier
had contact mid-session, but both continued.
