August 10, 1996
"Eaglewood Construction 300"
Berlin Raceway; Grand Rapids, MI
Finished: 4th Started: 5th, 16.364 (96.358 mph)
The heat is on! The longest continuous stretch of ASA races during the 1996
season is 8 events long; and we are at the half way mark 4 races down and 4
to go. After starting 5th at his "home" track, Bob quickly began to fall
back through the pack in the Lane Automotive/JR Automation/ Mr. Gasket Ford.
Bob was 6th at lap 5, 7th at 25, 8th at lap 36 and 9th at lap 41. At the
50th lap he was in 18th position with the threat of going down a lap. The
stagger on the "Bluebird" was way off. When the 1st caution waved at lap 60,
Bob came in for rear tires and went out running 16th. The 2nd caution flew
at lap 85, Bob came in for right side tires to try and tighten the car up,
we are running 14th at this point. The third caution waves at the lap 125
mark, the crew changes the right front after it has been shaking during the
previous short green flag run, Bob comes out running 9th. Shortly after
going green, the 4 and 3 cars tangled in turn 3, as Bob was slowing to avoid
the wreck he was tagged from behind and spun into the infield. As he
desperately tried to refire the car, he was passed by the leader and put a
lap down. The crew ran down to turn 4 and pushed Bob to get him started,
when he did; he dove into the pits for left side rubber and came out running
13th one lap down. Bob continues laboring on 1 lap down until the 5th
caution flies at lap 195, as the leaders pit Bob stays out trying to get his
lap back. The green flies from lap 202 until lap 276, and he FINALLY gets
his lap back, he is running 9th the last car on the lead lap. Now he comes
to the pits for the fresh right side tires, the green flies at alp 283. Bob
comes out running 7th, takes over 6th at lap 286, 5th at lap 292 and 4th
place at lap 294, where he finishes. "The crew did a great job tonight. We
were chasing the tires all night and were are happy to get a 4th place,"
said Senneker. "I got caught up in that big melee early in the race, I got
spun and I couldn't get the engine started. We should have been in the lead
lap earlier, then we would have been in the hunt for the win." Bob maintains
his 4th place in the ASA point standings. The next ASA race is the Weidner
Chevrolet 400 at Anderson (IN) Speedway. The race will start at 8PM (EST)
and will be telecast nationally on the PRIME Sport Network (PASS in Michigan)
