INTERNATIONAL SUPER TOURING IN SOUTH AFRICA
Both Kyalami and Killarney circuits have been given the green light by
Rear Admiral Nott-Craig to stage international Super Touring events
later in the year.
The circuit inspections of both tracks passed with minimal
alternations required for Kyalami with more work needed at the ape
Town circuit most notably resurfacing work to eliminate bumps and the
removal of two trees along the fast main straight section. The work
will be complete in time for the race scheduled for December 7.
Kyalami will introduce a significant change to the track layout by
redesigning the AA Kink into a 90 degree left hand second gear corner
followed imediately by a 90 degree right hand corner. The existing
Kink is taken nearly flat out - around 170 mph in a F1 car - but has
presented some problems with cars arriving two or more abreast.
According to a spokesman for AA Racing the new set of corners will
force the field to slow dramatically, providing an additional
overtaking area as well as enhancing the overall safety of the track.
