LARSSON LOOKS UNSTOPPABLE
LEXINGTON, Ohio (Aug. 11) - For only the second time in the previous
five races, Fredrik Larsson lost the lead during a Barber Dodge Pro
Series race. Of course, the young Swede snatched the lead back then
drove away to his second consecutive win--his fifth in the past six
races. He now has a commanding 39 point lead in the championship with
four races remaining.
Beginning with his second win of the year, on the Nazareth oval in Round
4, Larsson has started on pole and led every lap--with the exception of
Watkins Glen, where he crashed. Here at Mid-Ohio in Round 8, Larsson was
again on pole but Tony Renna took the lead at the start when Larsson
couldnt make Renna blink as they went side by side for virtually the
first lap-and-a-half. But on lap three, Larsson outbraked Renna at the
end of the back straight then motored away unbothered.
Renna likewise drove unfettered to second place, while behind a furious
battle for third ended up with Thomas Schie taking the laurels. Schies
third place vaulted him to second in points, albeit a scant one in front
of Mastronardi and Tim Moser. Round 9 is next week at Road America,
again supporting the IndyCar race.
