         Mark Wins Kinser Family Feud at Eldora Speedway

    ROSSBURG, OH (August 9) - Eldora Speedway has served as the
battleground for the Kinser family feud four of the five times
the Skoal Outlaw Series has invaded "The World's Fastest Half-
Mile" this year.
    In April, their front-straightaway collision sent Steve's
flipping into the first-corner retaining wall. In June, with CBS
Sports' television cameras capturing the action, Steve passed
Mark with 1 3/4 laps remaining to steal the show. Mark returned
the favor with a 12th-lap pass en route to victory July 19th,
setting up Friday's "Night Before The Big One" event.
    With the two highest-paying races of the year looming on the
horizon, the Kinser cousins exchanged the lead three times Friday
before Mark surged ahead with 1 1/4 laps remaining. He won with 
four car-lengths to spare for his 19th victory of the season.
    Mark, the leader in the World of Outlaws point standings,
opened the festivities the way he has 29 other times this year -
he paced the qualifying session and received the EcoWater Quick-
Time Award. His 13.814-second lap was more than a quarter of a 
second faster than anyone else in the 43-car field.
    The luck of the inversion pill draw was in Mark's favor, too.
He put himself on the pole of the Vivarin Dash by picking the #0.
Then he received the luxury of starting the "A" Feature in the
pole position by winning the five-lap race.
    Outside polesitter Stevie Smith steered the #71M EcoWater
Systems Maxim around Mark in turn four as the green flag fell in
the main event. Mark kept pace with Stevie around the legendary
high-banked, 1/2-mile before taking the lead with a low move in
the fourth corner late in the opening lap.
    Mark opened a 10-car-length advantage within three laps as
cousin Steve challenged Smith for the runner-up spot. His lead
disintegrated the next time around when Andy Hillenburg and Third
Quaker State Heat Race winner Kenny Jacobs collided in turn
three, bringing out the caution flag. Hillenburg, who survived a
similar incident in the First Quaker State Heat Race, restarted
at the rear of the field with a new left rear tire. Jacobs, whose
car suffered front wing damage, wasn't as fortunate, and was
credited with a 24th-place finish.
    Steve drove his #11 Quaker State Maxim into second place as
the race resumed, but was unable to catch Mark until lap eight.
Sammy Swindell, who won the 200th "A" Feature of his Skoal Outlaw
Series career at Eldora in April, exchanged third place with
Smith during the fifth lap while Steve reeled in the leader.
    Although Mark entered lapped traffic with a comfortable lead
early in the ninth lap, Steve passed him deep in turn four
seconds later. Mark returned the favor with an identical move in
the same spot the next time around.
    Steve challenged Mark for 3 1/2 laps before regaining first
place with a high move through dense lapped traffic in turn one.
"The King of the Outlaws" blazed a trail through the backmarkers
and enjoyed a full-straightaway advantage with 10 laps remaining.
    As the inside line started taking rubber and he approached
faster lapped traffic, Steve kept his #11 in the low groove. At
the same time, Mark raced in the middle of the track and
occasionally dropped into the low groove to gain traction.
    Mark narrowed the gap to eight car-lengths with four laps
remaining and caught Steve late in the 28th lap. After chasing
his cousin for a lap, Mark steered the #5M Wirtgen Maxim around
Steve in the fourth corner to regain the lead. Mark took the
checkered flag with a four-car-length cushion 1 1/4 laps later.
    "Steve was running the low groove trying to get by traffic,"
Mark told the near-capacity crowd from victory lane. "He didn't
want to get out of the rubber where the track was faster. I was
running a little higher line and was able to pick up speed as I
ran through it."
    Swindell executed a last-lap pass of Smith to claim third
place. Completing the top 10 in the World of Outlaws' 48th event
of the year were Jeff Swindell, Dave Blaney, Danny Lasoski, "B"
Feature winner Paul McMahan, Frankie Kerr and Dale Blaney.
    Although he didn't qualify well in his first race at Eldora
since winning the King's Royal on July 20th, Johnny Herrera drove
the #47 Casey's General Stores Maxim past 11 cars to finish 13th.
