Barber Dodge at Laguna Seca Raceway with IndyCar
The Superior Performance Challenge Added to Schedule

LAKEVILLE, Conn. and SAN JOSE, Calif. (Aug. 5) - The Barber Dodge Pro Series 
and Superior Performance Racing have announced that round 10 (of 12) of the 
1996 season, the Superior Performance Challenge, will support the Toyota Grand 
Prix of Monterey featuring the Bank of America 300 IndyCar race Sept. 6-7-8 at 
Laguna Seca Raceway. 
	Barber Dodge practice and qualifying for the Superior Performance 
Challenge will take place Friday and Saturday, with the 30-minute race 
scheduled for 4:15 local time Saturday afternoon.
	"We've wanted to race at Laguna Seca Raceway with the IndyCars for a 
number of years," said Skip Barber. "This event is a world class affair, and I 
can tell you that the Series and the competitors are really quite happy that 
it all came together this year. With Superior Performance's involvement, we've 
got a terrific weekend lined up."
	In addition, Superior Performance will sponsor the #21 Barber Dodge of 
Bryan Selby of Alpine, Calif.
	Superior Performance Racing sells race gear from its retail outlet in 
San Jose, Calif. It also runs driver Alex Padilla in the PPG-Firestone Indy 
Lights championship in the #11 Superior Performance Racing Lola. Padilla won 
three races competing in the Barber Pro Series in 1992 and 1993, including a 
victory at Laguna Seca. Padilla finished third in yesterday's Indy Lights race 
at Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.
	The Superior Performance Challenge will be broadcast on espn2 Sunday,
September 15 at 2:00 p.m. and Tuesday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m., both times
Eastern.
	Team owner Gil Chavez will award an Indy Lights test day to the winner 
of the Superior Performance challenge; additionally, Chavez plans on 
scheduling some test days over the winter in the team's Indy Lights cars to a 
select group of competitors from the Skip Barber Formula Dodge 2000 Race 
Series and Barber Dodge Pro Series.
	The Barber Dodge Pro Series, sanctioned by SCCA Pro Racing and the 
F.I.A., is America's leading open-wheel, equal-car entry level professional 
racing series, paying out more than $600,000 in prize money annually. In 
recent years Barber Dodge has distinguished itself as the prime "feeder" 
series to the PPG Firestone Indy Lights Championship, IndyCar's Official 
Development Series.
