UNITED EXPRESSLINE ALL STAR SPRINT RESULTS - SAT.
08/03/96 - K-C Raceway, Alma, Ohio  

   ALMA, OH - Kelly Kinser started 14th, held off his cousin
Randy and won his third United Expressline All Star sprint
feature Saturday night at K-C Raceway. Kinser's win, aboard the
Kinser Timber, Franklin Power Products Stealth, came with a
Gaerte-Chevy engine under the hood and on McCreary tires.
   "On the first red we were really tight and just loosened up
the car," Kinser said of his race strategy. "I really did want
to win this race tonight. I started 14th and I didn't think I
had a shot but everybody got loose and I was really glued down
to the track the rest of the way after the restart. "
   R. Kinser started fifth and led for nine laps in the middle
of the race until Kelly moved by him. "We put the wrong tire on
the inside, too soft." Randy said later. "On the restart we were
as beautiful as we've ever been here, but it just didn't last
long enough. If we would have had a yellow I think I could have
drove back around Kelly." R. Kinser's Maxim is owned by Steve
Kinser and carries a Jones-Kinser Chevrolet powerplant.
   Frankie Kerr rode Stan Shoff's J&J home third, with 17th
starting Todd Kane fourth. Kane was running his own year old
Maxim with an old engine under the hood from his asphalt
sprinter of several years ago. Dale Blaney completed the top
five finishers. 
   Blaney took the lead from the pole, leading over fourth
starter Kerr and outside pole man James Fisher. Blaney and Kerr
pulled away from the pack until third starting Dean Jacobs began
catching the top duo. Kerr was working well on the bottom and
ducked under Blaney going down the backstretch on lap six to
take the lead. Jacobs followed Kerr by for second, and then got
sideways a lap later, slid off turn three and flipped, bringing
out a red. On the restart, Tracy Hoover slid off turn three and
flipped end-over-end several times for another red. 
   Blaney went high exiting turn two to grab the lead over Kerr
and now R. Kinser moved into third in a challenging position.
Kerr was running the low grove, with Blaney high. Kerr kept the
pressure on, and was able to duck under Blaney at the flagstand
to lead lap 13. By lap 18, Kinser had moved into second, and
Craig Dollansky also followed him by Blaney. Then Rodney Duncan
flipped in turn three, losing a tire, to bring out the event's
third red flag. Craig Dollansky's machine would not fire up on
the restart, sending him pitside, dropping him from third. 
  This made the restart order Kerr, R. Kinser, Blaney and K.
Kinser. R. Kinser swept high around Kerr to lead at the drop of
the green, with Kerr tucking in behind. A lap later K. Kinser
passed Blaney for third and kept closing on the leaders. Lap 24
saw Kelly take Kerr for second, and then chase his cousin. Kelly
was moving up in the low groove, and took over on lap 28 by
passing Randy on the backstretch. He then began pulling away for
the win as Randy held off Kerr for second.
   Rocky Hodges started ninth and ended up sixth, with Charlie
Fisher seventh, Danny Smith eighth, Jim Nier ninth and K-C
points leader Mike Bowling tenth.
      Charlie Fisher was the fast qualifier over the 31 car
field and won the Commercial Truck & Trailer Dash and the
Outerwears Pre-filters B Main. The Southwest Expressline heat
went to Kelly Kinser, the ButlerBuilt heat to Byron Reed and the
third heat to Tim Shaffer.  Gus Wasson took a wild flip in the B
Main over David Snell, but he was not injured. Snell left the
speedway complaining of a sore back. Skip Waterman won the late
model main over Carl Coleman.
