LARSSON LICKS'EM AT SEARS
SONOMA, Calif. (July 14) - Fredrik Larsson drove unbothered from pole to
checkered flag in round seven of the Barber Dodge Pro Series at Sears
Point Raceway, his fourth win of the year. He jumped on the throttle the
moment the pace car pulled off, leaving outside front row man Geoff Boss
in his wake. By the end of lap 1 he had a five car length lead and was
never headed. Boss had Derek Hill in his mirrors early on but distanced
himself by halfway. Hill, who had started fourth, passed Tony Renna into
Turn 1 at the start and stayed there until race's end. Rino Mastronardi,
second in points to Larsson, battled Renna but eventually settled for
fifth.
"I just want to get away at the starts, then take it easy " Larsson
said. "Last year, I waited too long to go at the start. Not this year."
Asked about his title chances, Larsson said, "I'm not going to change the
way I approach the races, but I think finishing in the top five the rest
of the year can get me the championship."
Larsson broke the qualifying record, the race average-speed record
and the fastest race-lap record over the weekend and now leads
Mastronardi by 26 points
heading to round eight at Mid-Ohio August 11. Moser remains in third with 70.
