"D1 ADAC SUPER-TOUREN-WAGEN CUP '96" - ROUND 4 AT SACHSENRING
Sachsenring is situated in East Germany. A new circuit was built on the
area of the old street course from 1927. Only the old start/finish
straight was taken for the new track. And only a few hundred metres
of the 3.7 km long track are part of a public road now. The reopening
was on June 1 this year with a motorbike race. The STW-Cup this weekend
was the first international race on this new circuit, which reminds in
its structure to the old Nurburgring or Spa-Francorchamps.

STW-Sprint 16 laps:
Wet race; Werner(Opel), Maassen(Nissan) and Burgstaller(BMW)
starting with Intermediates.
Start: Philipp Peter takes the lead from Tamara Vidali and Emanuele
Pirro.(all Audi) Gindorf(BMW) kicks Burgstaller off the track.
Warren Hughes suddenly turns to the right and crashes with
200 kph hard into the barriers. The Mondeo is catapulted back,
gets airborne, two metres up and rotating over 360 degrees
before landing on the track again. After a first medical
supply, Hughes was taken to hospital by Helicopter. He suffered
a serious concussion of the brain, bruises and contusions.
Restart after almost 1 1/2 hours for 13 laps.
lap01: Peter, Vidali, Pirro,
07: Joerg Mueller(BMW) is pushed off the track by Kris Nissen(Audi),
but can continue.
09: Christian Abt takes 3rd from Karl Wendlinger.(both Audi)
10: Nissen out.
11: Tamara Vidali has an excursion through the gravel.
12: Wolfgang Treml(Ford) into pits with broken steering - out.
13: Joerg Mueller slides into the gravel - end.
