REPEAT WINNERS AT ANDERSON

	ANDERSON, Ind. (June 29)---Repeat winners were the rule Saturday night
at the Anderson Speedway.  Three of the four regular Anderson division
winners repeated, as the MMRA Mini-Cups visited for their only 1996
appearance.

	Brian Rievley set fast time in the Hoosier Park Late Models and rolled
a 6 to set the inversion.  That put last week’s feature winner and
many times track champion Vic Hellis on the pole, with Ray Skillman on
the outside.  At the start of the 25 lap main, Hellis motored ahead as
Skillman’s mount slipped off turn four and bedlam ensued.  A full half
of the field became involved, with Joe Beaver being the only casualty.
Beaver was driving a brand new Ray Fullen back-up car.  On the
restart Hellis ran away as Tim Neal poked his car into second, with
Skillman third.  Hellis was running very consistent 12.6 laps but
suddenly Neal moved to Vic’s rear bumper.  Just as Tim began to
pressure the leader, his ignition began to cut out.  “I caught him up,
but couldn’t have passed him any way.  (Hellis) can drive this place
in his sleep.,” Neal admitted.  Behind Hellis and Neal were Skillman,
Bobby Fields and Brian Rievley.

	The Miniature Motor Racing Ass’n (MMRA) Mini-Cups were on hand for
their debut Anderson event.  These racers have been featured on ESPN2,
and are not go-carts with stock car bodies.   they are full coil
suspension racers with a roll cage.  They have a 13 horsepower Honda
engine.  Brian Walker bested Randy Walker and Bill Baird, Jr. in the
heat and feature.  The fans seemed enthusiastic about it.

	Last week Mike Cain came back from a two year layoff to win the 15 lap
Big Lots Figure-8 feature.  Tonight, he made it two in a row.  He
first held off challenges from Herb Rose and then Joe Beaver.  Rose
tried to ram down to the inside of Cain but the pair made hard
contact.  Rose was finished.  Cain then looked at the scoreboard and
saw Beaver in second.  “I knew I had to keep it low, ” Cain said of
trying to protect his lead over Beaver.  Cain won over Beaver, Gene
Huston, Rod Phipps and Rick Fields.  Rose and Darwin Blankenship won
heats.

	Wayne Young started 20th last week and took the lead of the 20 lap
Street Stock A-Main on lap 18.  This week he started 10th and took the
lead on lap 8.  Early front runners Danny Whitaker, Michael Stewart
and Bob Lemon battled but Young’s charge was inevitable.  Several late
race cautions bunched up the field.  Stewart actually got alongside
Young on a restart, but Wayne powered away.  Young took his fourth win
over Stewart, Chris Bair, Dennis Wallen, Whitaker and Lemon.  The
B-Main was the wildest race of the night.  Bob Jeffries had the lead
with one lap to go.  He had been under heavy pressure from John McGee.
Both cars spun and crashed off of turn four.  Jeffries spun to the
line just a few inches ahead of McGee.  Rich Goodwin was third over
Mark Wyman and Jerry Swinford, Jr.
