TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

ALAIN MENU and the Williams-Renault team underlined their 
strong testing form with a virtuoso display at Brands Hatch today 
(Saty), claiming a pole position double for tomorrow's twin rounds of 
the Auto Trader RAC Touring Car Championship -- and making up 
for their sister F1 team's failure to capture pole in the French Grand 
Prix. 
 
In qualifying for the 13th round of the BTCC, Menu, last year's 
championship runner-up, lapped the Grand Prix layout of the Kent 
track in a time of 1m 27.975s -- well ahead of championship leader 
Frank Biela's Audi (1m 28.759s). Menu's team-mate, 1991 Champion 
Will Hoy, was fourth fastest, behind the Volvo of Rickard Rydell. 
 
Qualifying for round 14 of the series saw Menu again snatching the 
pole, this time with Hoy second quickest. Menu's time was 1m 
27.788s -- two-tenths ahead of Hoy's.
