IRL SETS ALLOTMENT FORMULA FOR 1997 CARS

LAS VEGAS, June 27, 1996 -- A systematic allotment plan has been
implemented by the Indy Racing League for the first round of orders for
the new cars to be campaigned after Jan. 1, 1997 in the series' 1996-97
season. Owners learned of the plan here Wednesday.

Teams will select either Dallara or G Force chassis at a special meeting
early next month in Indianapolis. The order of selection will be based
primarily on entrant points from the three-race 1996 season which ended
with the 80th running of the Indianapolis 500.

The process among the teams will be according to the following criteria:

1. Developmental teams: Nissan and Oldsmobile, the engine manufacturers
for 1997 and beyond, will choose two teams each to act as test teams for
their respective engines. These will be Nissan/Dallara, Nissan/G Force,
Oldsmobile/Dallara and Oldsmobile/G Force. The first two chassis from
each manufacturer will be purchased by the test teams.

2. 1996 IRL entrant points: Excluding the development teams, entrants
will select chassis in the order of 1996 entrant point standings on the
basis of one car per team.

3. Additional selections: The IRL will allow, at its discretion, teams
to order a second car if a) It will be a primary at the Jan. 25 Indy
200 at Walt Disney World, b) The team has a history of running multiple
cars and c) The team has a contractual obligation to a sponsor to run an
additional car. Selection order of entrant points will be the same, with
developmental teams included.

4. New teams may select and purchase chassis.

5. Backups: The IRL will have a small number of backup cars available
for teams to purchase in case of damage to primary machines before the
Indy 200 at Walt Disney World.

Following the race, teams are open to order from either Dallara or G
Force as desired.

"We've had a great number of inquiries for the 1997 portion of our
season and the new chassis/engine combination," said Jack Long,
executive director of the Indy Racing League. "It was important that we
develop a fair criteria for everyone to acquire their cars based on the
time frame involved for this initial effort."


The order of selection, based on entrant points is as follows: A.J. Foyt
Enterprises, Bradley Motorsports, Della Penna Motorsports, Pagan Racing,
Treadway Racing, Team Menard, Cunningham Racing, Team Scandia, Hemelgarn
Racing, PDM, Team Blueprint Racing, Beck Motorsports, Zunne Group,
Project Indy, Tempero/Giuffre, Leigh Miller Racing, Galles Racing, ABF
Motorsports and Walker Racing.

The 1996-97 IRL season opens with the True Value 200 at Loudon, N.H. and
continues with the Sept. 15 Las Vegas 500k at the new Las Vegas Motor
Speedway, under the current 1996 IRL specifications and regulations.
