NEWS FROM THE AUTO TRADER RAC
TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP
Official Testing: Silverstone, 10/6/96
VOLVO driver Kelvin Burt has been ruled unfit for this weekend's
(Jun 16) twin rounds of the Auto Trader RAC Touring Car
Championship at Snetterton. Burt, who was injured last month in a
crash at Oulton Park, was today (Mon) said by TOCA doctor Paul
Trafford to have made a remarkable recovery but was still only 95 per
cent fit.
It is hoped that Burt will be 100 per cent ready for the BTCC races at
Brands Hatch at the end of June. His car will be driven at Snetterton
on Sunday by young Formula 3 frontrunner Jamie Davies, who today
posted 10th quickest time in official BTCC testing on the Silverstone
Grand Prix circuit.
Quickest at Silverstone was the 1991 Champion Will Hoy, driving a
Renault Laguna. Hoy was almost a tenth of a second quicker than '93
Champ Jo Winkelhock in his BMW, with James Thompson third
quickest for Vauxhall.
Championship leader Frank Biela was back in action today after a
short break from testing for a minor back operation. He was 11th
quickest in his four-wheel-drive Audi A4 after an afternoon's work in
a car shared with team-mate John Bintcliffe.
