NORTH AMERICAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP TO RUN ON TEXACO PRODUCTS

Texaco CleanSystem Gasoline and Havoline Formula3 to
Fuel and Lubricate NATCC

Tampa, Florida, May 17, 1996 -- Texaco announced today that it has
reached an agreement with the North American Touring Car Championship
(NATCC) naming the company exclusive gasoline and motor oil supplier as
well as major associate sponsor of the Championship.

In making the announcement, Chuck M. Kosich, Director of Advertising for
Texaco USA commented, "Texaco and auto racing have long been synonymous.
Sponsorship of racing has been a very effective cornerstone program in
our marketing of Havoline Formula3 motor oil. As gasoline and motor
oil supplier as well as associate sponsor of the NATCC can extend the
successful use of motorsports marketing to our high quality CleanSystem
gasoline. This sponsorship also will continue to reinforce our Havoline
Formula3 proof of performance message."

The Super Touring cars which compete in the NATCC, are required to run
on Texaco CleanSystem gasoline. As gasoline and lubricant supplier,
Texaco will provide 94 octane CleanSystem gasoline to automobiles in
the Championship. Competitors in the NATCC also will be offered the
opportunity to use Havoline Formula3 motor oil.

to run the Super Touring cars," commented Roger Elliot, President of the
NATCC.

The NATCC racing series extends from May to September. The slick, fast,
Super Touring cars will reach road race track speeds of 160 mph during
this inaugural year of the NATCC.

Amos Johnson, Director of Race Operations at the NATCC stated. "We
believe that Super Touring is the only major professional racing series
in the world which runs with catalytic converters. This makes the NATCC
an environmentally friendly motorsports program. With the use of Texaco
CleanSystem, a gasoline which results in emission reductions in normal
passenger vehicles, we improve our cleaner burning capabilities."
