Kinser Extends Points Lead With Lernerville Victory

    SARVER, PA (May 21) - Mark Kinser took his time getting to the
front of the field Tuesday on Purvis Brothers/Pennzoil Night at
Lernerville Speedway. But when the checkered flag fell, there's was no
doubt who had won the Skoal Outlaw Series "A" Feature.
    Kinser, the leader in the World of Outlaws point standings,
started the 35-lap "A" Feature outside the third row. He took the lead
from polesitter Danny Lasoski late in the 23rd lap and was almost a
straightaway ahead when he took the checkered flag 13 laps later.
    The $6,000 victory, his fifth of the season, pushed him 52 points
ahead of his cousin, 14-time Skoal Outlaw Series champion Steve
Kinser.
    "It's a challenge running at Lernerville," Mark told the capacity
crowd following the first victory of his career at the semi-banked,
1/2-mile oval. "Cars can run any place on this track.
    "I used lapped traffic to my advantage, and early cautions helped
to tighten the field. I found a quick line by going high in turn three
and diving low into four."
    Mark, the fastest qualifier in the 44-car field, had the luck of
the draw go against him after he received his ninth EcoWater Quick-
Time Award of the year. He picked the #6 inversion pill, which put him
on the outside the third row in the Vivarin Dash. He lined up in the
same position in the main event after following Stevie Smith, Lasoski,
Andy Hillenburg, Ed Lynch, Jr., and Sammy Swindell across the finish
line in the five-lap race.
    Smith burst into the lead as the green flag fell in the "A"
Feature, only to have "The Dude" catch him in turn one and pass him
high in the second corner. The red flag was flying before Lasoski had
a chance to increase his advantage, however, as Johnny Herrera and the
#47 Casey's General Stores Maxim crashed in turn four the next time
around.
    Andy Hillenburg passed Smith for the runner-up spot as the race
resumed, and was right behind Lasoski when they entered lapped traffic
six laps into the race. Hillenburg caught "The Dude" two laps later,
and raced wheel-to-wheel with him down the back straightaway. Lasoski
managed to maintain the lead, but was unable to shake the World of
Outlaws' 1988 Rookie of the Year. Smith and Swindell made it a four-
car-battle for the lead when "The Dude" and Stevie slowed behind a
pack of backmarkers late in lap nine.
    Smith and Swindell passed Hillenburg during the next two laps,
only to have Andy return the favor during the 13th lap. Lasoski drove
the #5 Jackpot Junction Casino Schnee out to a five-car-length
advantage as the threesome swapped second, third and fourth place.
    Mark started making his move toward the front late in the 15th
lap. He took advantage of a near-collision involving Steve Kinser and
Smith in turn four, then inherited third place when Swindell suffered
a flat left rear tire in a first-corner collision with Hillenburg the
next time around.
    Although defending Skoal Outlaw Series champion Dave Blaney
started on the sixth row, he got into the act during the 17th lap,
driving the #10 Vivarin J&J into sixth place. He passed Smith and
Steve Kinser during the 18th and 20th laps to take over fourth place.
"The King of the Outlaws" returned the favor the next time around.
    Lasoski was approaching lapped traffic again when Mark steered the
#5M Wirtgen Maxim deep into the second corner to pass Hillenburg for
the runner-up spot early in lap 21. In his haste to regain second
place, Andy allowed the #2 STP J&J to slide out of the low groove in
turn two early in the 22nd lap and Kinser and Blaney took advantage.
    Mark caught "The Dude" on the front straightaway early in lap 23,
and executed an inside slide move in turn one to take the lead.
Lasoski tried to return the favor by crossing over in the second
corner, only to have Kinser win a back-straightaway drag race.
    Mark quickly extended his advantage as Steve and Blaney challenged
"The Dude" for the runner-up spot, opening a half-straightaway lead by
lap 29. Lasoski was entering turn four as Mark took the checkered
flag.
    Steve Kinser passed "The Buckeye Bullet" late to finish third.
Swindell raced back through the field to claim fifth place, while
Smith, Lynch, Jeff Swindell, Billy Pauch and Hillenburg completed the
