NEW PRODUCT : AUTOCAD INTERFACE FOR DYNAMIC RESPONSE ,
Australian Grand Prix Simulation
Preston & Pleydell, engineering consultants and co-designers of
the Australian built Spectrum 05 Formula Ford, have recently
updated their circuit simulation software to include a link to the
popular CAD package AutoCAD. The package, called Dynamic
Response, is similar in design to the Renault package seen
recently in Auto Action and Motorsport News for predicting circuit
lap times. Design engineer Mark Preston said, “Simulation is the
way of the future as race car teams try to discover what variables
will give the most gain without expensive track testing programs.
Contact with Formula One teams such as Williams and Benetton has
shown that they too are only just beginning to develop their own
in-house packages as the area of research is only very new.”
At the recent Australian Grand Prix the program predicted a lap
time of 2:11.70 sec for the Formula Fords, and 1:57:87 sec for the
5 litre Touring Cars within 2 % of the times set in Friday
practice, 2:10.0 and 2:00.06 respectively. “Considering we do not
have access to the amount of data F1 teams receive we are quite
happy with the accuracy of our results as many of the F1 teams
were surprised to find the track with more grip than expected”,
said Mark.
