TYRRELL AIMS TO DOUBLE ITS POINTS

The Tyrrell Yamaha F1 Team started the 1996 season well, scoring
points in the first two races of the Championship. The team is now
looking forward to next Sunday's San Marino Grand Prix where it
will be aiming to add three more points to its credit in the
Constructor's Championship.

Harvey Postlethwaite, Managing Director - Engineering said: "We
have great expectations for Imola because the 024 should perform
well and after the set back of the last two races, we want to be
in the points again and get back the momentum we started in
Australia and Brazil."

Reflecting on last Sunday's European Grand Prix, Postlethwaite
added: "The disqualification of Ukyo Katayama on Sunday is
perfectly correct with the regulations as they have been amended
this year.

"However, the implication is that if a car stalls on the grid it
cannot be restarted and participate in the race and this is clearly
not the intention of the regulations. Ken Tyrrell is taking the
matter up with the President of the FIA.

"Regarding the exclusion of Mika Salo, the team is satisfied that
the car was indeed 1.5 kg under the weight limit of 600 kg at the
post race scrutineering. For every race the team has a procedure
to ballast the car so that it starts with a weight margin that
takes account of normal loss of weight due to tyre wear, oil
consumption, brake wear etc...and even driver perspiration. In this
instance the margin was correctly applied but combined effects of
high tyre wear on the final set, and the consumption of almost all
the engine oil caused the margin to be insufficient in this
instance. The team will review its procedure in light of this
experience."
