More NASCAR notes on Sears Point
*** Several other drivers have had their share of
success at Sears Point. Rusty Wallace has a Busch pole, a
win (1990) and four top-five finishes at Sears Point. Geoff
Bodine has three top-five's and a win (1993) as does Scale
Earnhardt (1995). Mark Martin has three top-five finishes at
Sears Point as well.
*** Ford has won three of the seven NASCAR Winston
Cup races at Sears Point while Chevrolet has won two,
Pontiac one and Buick one.
*** Every driver who has won a Busch Pole at Sears
Point (Earnhardt Irvan, Rudd and Wallace), has won races as
well. But only Irvan has won a pole and the race in the
sable weekend (1994). In fact, that's the only time the race
has been won from the pole.
*** The average starting position for the winning
driver at Sears Point is 5.43.
*** It is appropriate that the only driver to win
more than one Busch Pole at Sears Point (Rudd) has the track
qualifying record at 92.132 mph.
*** It also is only appropriate that the only driver
to win more than one race at Sears Point (Irvan), has the
race record at 81.413 mph.
And now it's time again for:
STAT OF THE: WEEK
Sears Point and the Save Mart Supermarkets 300 is the
10th race of the 1996 NASCAR Winston Cup season. Five times
in the last 10 years, the Series point leader after 10 races
went on to win the NASCAR Winston Cup championship.
All five times, that driver was Dale Earnhardt (1986,
'87, '90, '91 and '93).
