VANDERBILT CUP GALA RESTORES HISTORIC AWARD TO PROMINENCE

NEW YORK (April 25, 1996) -- In the spirit of IndyCar racing, a team
effort prevailed when IndyCar President and CEO Andrew Craig and
auto-racing superstar Mario Andretti unveiled the rendering of the
recreation of the Vanderbilt Cup. The original Cup was commissioned by
racing legend William K. Vanderbilt, Jr. in 1904. Both the original and
its recreation are designs of Tiffany & Co.

The unveiling of the rendering took place this afternoon during a
fund-raising luncheon in the Terrace Room of the Plaza Hotel in New
York. Honorary Chairperson, Mrs. Edwin M. Burke, granddaughter of Mr.
Vanderbilt, designated Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as the
beneficiary of the luncheon. Tickets were $250 each, with net proceeds
donated to the institution.

"The Vanderbilt Cup was the first important racing trophy awarded in
the United States," Craig explained. "IndyCar is both pleased and proud
to return this most significant award to the prominence it so richly
deserves. We are very happy, as well, to have the endorsement of Mrs.
Burke in this important project."

The majority of the costs associated with the luncheon, attended by
almost 200 invited guests, were underwritten by inaugural U.S. 500
corporate sponsors, including Alumax, Anheuser-Busch, Greater Michigan
Ford Dealers, Honda, Indeck, LCI International, Mercedes-Benz of North
America Inc., Miller Brewing Company, Mobil Oil Corporation, No Fear,
Pennzoil Products Company, Target Stores, Texaco U.S.A., and Toyota
Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.

Special thanks for product and service donations also were extended
to Arciero Wineries, Domaine Chandon, The Donna Karan Beauty Company,
Gerald Forsythe, Tom Saal and Tiffany & Co.

During the reception, selected reproductions of pages from the original
Vanderbilt Cup race program were displayed. The Terrace Room was
decorated by Atlas Floral Decorators, Inc. with white spring flowers.
Taped music by American composers as performed by American symphonies
was played throughout the event by More Than Music.

The Vanderbilt Cup will be awarded to the winner of the Inaugural
U.S. 500, to be held Sunday, May 26, 1996, at Michigan International
Speedway, Brooklyn, Michigan.

The race is being televised live on ESPN beginning at 2 p.m. Eastern,
Sunday, May 26. The U.S. 500 qualifying will also be shown live on
ESPN the weekend of May 11-12. The winner of the race will take home a
minimum of $1 million of the $3.6 million purse.
