NASCAR/WEB: One million hit day on NASCAR web site

    DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Apr. 16, 1996) -- NASCAR Online, the official web site of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing, registered its first one million hit day on March 31 less than one month after the site debuted.

    NASCAR unveiled NASCAR Online, NASCAR's Official lnternet, World Wide Web site, a service that delivers the most accurate and advanced online NASCAR information to fans around the world on February 14. The service is live on the lnternet's World Wide Web at http://www. nascar.com.

    Since its debut, NASCAR Online has steadily increased its user and hit numbers week-by-week with its largest usage day being on NASCAR Winston Cup Series race days. March 31 was the date of the NASCAR Winston Cup Series Food City 500 in Bristol, Tennessee, the sixth of 31 points races on the NASCAR Winston Cup Series circuit.

    The first million hit day included 21,959 users for a total of 1,080,042 qualified hits, the average visit time to NASCAR Online was 9 minutes, 32 seconds. Overall NASCAR Online is averaging; 17,000 users a day and 4.5 million hits a week.

"Since debuting NASCAR Online, the site has doubled its users, a credit to our innovative content areas that are updated daily." NASCAR Online provides fans the most recent and complete information about NASCAR, direct from NASCAR's headquarters. Features include information on all 12 of NASCAR's racing divisions, the latest headlines, up-to-the-minute qualifying; and race results, team and driver sections with biographical and career statistics, track and event information, merchandise. chats, fan polls and much more.

    A key element of NASCAR Online is its ability to transport the fan to the behind-the-scene areas of NASCAR that were previously unreachable. NASCAR Online allows fans across the world to obtain a NASCAR "garage pass" every week.

    One feature of NASCAR Online allows users access to the same electronic timing; and scoring; computer system that NASCAR Winston Cup Series officials use to monitor, score and regulate caches. Qualifying and race data are available in real time as they happen.

    NASCAR Online provides fans with advanced multi-media applications including video, audio, photography, graphics and data.

    The content areas found on NASCAR Online include News, Teams, Tracks, Schedules, Standings, Fans, Garage and Store.

    NASCAR developed NASCAR Online in conjunction with Starwave, the premier lnternet site development company, and ESPN.
