NOTES AND COYOTES
First Union 400
North Wilkesboro Speedway
April 14, 1996

BOBBY HAMILTON (No. 43 STP Pontiac: Grand Prix): "It drove pretty good 
and we got to working on it and we went to the conservative side to try 
and pull a good finish out. Right there at the end we were good enough 
to pass the 33 and the 3 but we didn't want to mess with them. We're 
pretty happy to finish in the top-10. We're always qualifying third or 
fourth here and finishing 16th or 18th. So this was a pretty good day 
for us really. We ought to be real good at Martinsville. This is the 
same car we ran there last time, and everyone that went up there and 
tested said they ran the same setups and all. We need to get back up 
there in points. We also needed to take care of this car because this is 
next week's car. It was just one of those days where we couldn't afford 
to be real aggressive. But our finish was indicative of about how good 
we were."
 
RICK MAST(No. 1 Hooters Pontiac Grand Prix) "During one run the car was 
kind of halfway decent but other than that it wasn't real good all day. 
We were fighting a push-loose deal all day. We were pushing in the 
middle of the turns and loose off them We just couldn't get it fixed. We 
lost one of the laps there early when we had a bad pit stop I don't know 
what happened. We just didn't run good. The bottom line is that we just 
didn't run good

"I love Martinsville.  That's one track where I always run well at. I'm 
looking forward to going there right now.  But I don't think we learned 
anything today that will help us there because we ran a different tire 
here than what we'll run at Martinsville.  Some of the things we did 
here we definitely won't do at Martinsville "

Johnny Benson (No. 30 Pennzoil Pontiac Grand Prix): ''We were good there 
for a while and then we're not sure what happened. The car was loose at 
the beginning of the race, but it was comfortable and stable. Then it 
started getting a lot looser. We had a real good car to start with. The 
track didn't go our way. Testing here and at Martinsville over the last 
two weeks helped us. I thought we were going to have a good race and it 
started out that way. It just got loose.  We'll find out why went we get 
back to the shop.  I'm sure everyone got loose but we were pretty 
devastating on the loose part of it. The crew did a great job. We were 
just off a little bit after we got going."

KYLE PETTY(No. 42 Coors Light Pontiac Grand Prix): ''I guess we missed 
the setup. That led to our tires wearing quicker than most of the other 
teams and when you have a race like this that has such long green flag  
runs it kills you on old tires."
