Silverstone has a special place in my heart. It was here that I saw my first GP. A warm dry sunny childhood day in 1979. Ahhhh memories. Silverstone also has the distinction of hosting the first ever modern GP.
May 13 1950, another occasion when the weather was warm and sunny. Guiseppe Farina started from pole, set the fastest lap and won the race with an average speed of 90.950 mph.
Silverstone is built on the remains of a WW2 airfield, still one of the faster circuits on the calendar, average speeds are 135mph +.
Jim Clark dominated Silverstone with three succesive wins at the track, 1963, 1965 and 1967. In recent years Nigel Mansell and Alain Prost were dominant at Silverstone.
