The Nurburgring was the greatest road racing circuit in the World. Over 14 miles long, 176 corners on ever changing gradient the track was one of a kind.
Following Niki Lauda's near fatal accident in 1976 the track was deemed to be no longer safe for modern Formula 1 cars. The German government helped build the new track, situated at the start / finish area of the old 'Ring'.
The pits were replaced with a new complex and the new Nurburgring now boasts a hotel which overlooks the start line.
Only once, since 1976 has the Nurburgring hosted the German GP, that was in 1985 when Michele Alboreto won for Ferrari.
In recent years the NUrburgring has hosted the European GP.
