The race is usually run in very hot weather and it is not unusual to have less than ten cars finish. Wolf racing scored an impressive debut win here in 1977 when Jody Scheckter won the first race of the season.
The Argentine Grand Prix ran from 1957 - 1960 and then from 1972 - 1981.
The circuit named the October 17 Autodrome was built in 1952, opening in the March of that year. After Peron died it was renamed the Municipal Autodrome.
The track has many variants which make it suited for all styles of motor racing. Formula 1 has used the number 2 (1957 - 1960), number 9 (1972 - 1973), number15 (1974 - 1981) and now number 6 (1995 - present) variants.
