McLaren are one of the true "super teams" in Formula 1.

Founded by Bruce McLaren in 1963 the teams first Grand Prix victory came in the 1968 Belgian Grand Prix, with the team owner Bruce McLaren at the wheel of the M7A Cosworth.
Bruce McLaren was killed at Goodwood while testing the M8 in 1970.

Four years later McLaren took their first constuctors title, when Emerson Fittipaldi took his M23 Cosworth to victory in the Drivers championship and secured the double for the team.

McLaren have won the constuctors title seven times, each time also winning the drivers championship. McLaren Drivers have won more championship titles than any other constructor, nine champions !.

McLaren were to dominate the mid to late 1980's with a string of victories. In 1988 and 1989 McLaren had Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost as their drivers. In 1988 McLaren won 15 out of 16 races and in 1989 they won 10 out of 16.

Their last constructors title was in 1991, since then the Renault engined cars have had a performance advantage and McLaren have had four different engines in as many seasons, Honda 1992, Ford 1993, Peugeot 1994 and Mercedes 1995. They are continuing with Mercedes engines for 1996 and have signed David Coulthard to partner Mika Hakkinen.

The continuity of having the same engine for another year should pay dividends, and you should expect to see McLaren return to winning ways.
