Founded in 1986 the Benetton team have recently become one of the top teams in Formula 1. Since 1992 Michael Schumacher has helped the team to ever more succesful seasons.

In 1992 Benneton were only denied a brace of victories by the superbly built Williams. The Benetton team finished third in the constructors cup behind Williams and the McLaren team who had the partnership of Senna and Berger. It was the strength of the McLaren drivers that saw them take second place by just 8 points. Schumacher scored 53 points to finish third and his team mate Brundle scored 38 to finish sixth.

In 1993 the Williams again proved the dominant car and agin McLaren just pipped Benetton to second place in the constructors cup. Schumacher scored 52 points to finish fourth and his team mate Patrese scored 20 to finish fifth.

1994 saw Benetton become master tacticians and the class of the field when it came to pit stops. Michael Schumacher drove brilliantly all year winning the first four races, he would have won a fifth in Spain had his car not stuck in fifth. As it was he drove brilliantly to finish second. Schumacher won again in France and then things took a turn for the worse.
Schumacher was disqualified in Britain and recieved a two race ban, in Hockenheim Jos Verstappen was engulfed in flames as a refueling rig accident caused a massive fireball with his Benetton in the centre. Thankfully no-one was hurt.

Again in Spa Benetton were in trouble, Schumacher spun onto the Kerb and ground away too much of his "plank" leading to another disqualification.

The Championship was settled when Schumacher and Hill crashed out in Adelaide leaving the Benetton one point in the lead.

1995 saw Benetton in dominant form, Schumacher winning eight races and his team mate Herbert winning two. Schumacher retained the Drivers championship with two races left and Benetton secured their first constructors championship in Japan.
Both Schumacher and Herbert will be replaced by the Ferrari duo of Alesi and Berger for 1996.
