1983/5 Scottish Junior Kart Champion in 1983, 1984 and 1985

1986/7 Scottish Open and British SSuper 1 Kart Champion

1988 Scottish Open Kart Champion

1989 Winner of both single seater Junior FF1600 Championships

1990 Fourth in British Vauxhall Lotus challenge and Fifth in GM Lotus Euroseries (despite a broken leg)

1991 Second in British Formula Three Championship including five wins

1992 Ninth in the European Formula 3000 Championship
Tested with Camel Benetton Ford Formula One team

1993 Third in the Formula 3000 Championship
Tested the Williams Renault FW15C
Won the GT Class of the Le Mans 24 Hour Race for Jaguar

1994 Official test driver for the Williams Renault team
Following Ayton Senna's death, competed in his first Grand Prix in Spain mechanical problems forced him out of the race.
Finished eighth in the Driver's World Championship with 14 points.
Awarded the Autosport 'British Competition Driver of the Year' trophy

1995 First full season as a Formula One driver, partnering Damon Hill for the Williams Renault team.
Finished second in first race of the season but disqualified for a fuel irregularity, later overturned.
First GP Pole position in Argentina, but failed to finish.
First GP win at Portugal, with majority of competitive drivers still in the race.
Ends the season with five pole positions, one win and an admirable third in the drivers championship with 49 points.
Leaves Williams to join the McLaren-Mercedes team for 1996.
