HUGH A. JENCKS

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Jencks began his professional career in 1967, as an educator. He taught English, Theatre, and Television Production at the High School and Junior College level for 13 years. During that time he also founded and directed civic theatre groups in Olivet and Albion, Michigan. He established the Community Television Center at Willard Public Library in Battle Creek. This served as one of the first Public Access centers in Michigan. At the Battle Creek Schools he established the first Educational Access channel in Michigan which broadcast educational programming from the high school's studio to the system's elementary schools.

In 1980, he left to join Omnicom, a cable television system serving five Detroit suburbs, as Director of Programming. He concurrently served Omnicom's parent, Capital Cities Communications, as a Franchising Assistant. In 1982, he joined the programming staff of Booth Communications in Birmingham, Michigan, and was appointed General Manager nine months later. During his tenure at Booth he lead the system into several trials of interactive technology with Cableshare of London, Ontario, Ameritech, NTN, and later VIScorp. His system became known as a leader in the field of interactive testing and received a significant amount of national press coverage as a result.

Also while at Booth, Jencks was invited by Michigan Governor John Engler to Lansing for a six month period to design and build Michigan Government Television (MGTV). He completed this project and the channel launched in July of 1996.

Jencks has been an active Director of the Michigan Cable Telecommunications Association for many years and currently serves as its President.
