The Fast Ethernet print server rounds out Intel’s broad range of Fast Ethernet products that include the EtherExpress PRO/100 Adapters and the Express line of 100Mbps switches and hubs.

• Fast Ethernet Connections
  While many corporate LANs are steadily migrating to high-bandwidth 100BASE-TX and need a print server with 100Mbps connectivity today, there are also a number of 10Mbps workgroups that have not started the migration to Fast Ethernet but plan to in the future. The NetportExpress PRO/100 print server is designed to easily connect printers in both 10Mbps and 100Mbps environments providing 100Mbps connectivity today or a seamless migration path to 100Mbps when ready.

• Manageability The NetportExpress PRO/100 print server is designed to be one of the most manageable devices on the network. The new print server includes Netport Manager, the feature-rich, Windows*-based tool that enables easy installation, configuration and management for all Intel print servers. The Netport Manager software provides:
  • Integration with enterprise management consoles: Snapping into Intel’s LANDeskâ Management Suite, Netport Manager automatically sends alerts to the LANDesk management console, letting network staff know when the toner is low or the paper is out, for example. The print server also supports SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) for access via any enterprise-wide SNMP-based management console.

  • Bi-directional communication: Supports bi-directional network printer communication, proactively providing network staff with critical information and allowing them to respond in real time.

  • Centralized management by domains: Allows print servers to be arranged in logical groupings to simplify management tasks. Print servers can be monitored and controlled by any networked PC.

  • Three-port flexibility and cost-effectiveness: With two parallel and one serial ports, connects up to three printers simultaneously to a 100Mbps or 10Mbps network.

• NOS Independent The NetportExpress PRO/100 print server natively supports all popular network operating systems and protocols, on all ports simultaneously. Protocols and operating systems include Novell NetWare*, Microsoft Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 3.1, LAN Manager, IBM LAN Server, seven flavors of UNIX, as well as AppleTalk.
