Intel Launches Fall Consumer Advertsing Campaign "The Pentium® Processor Connected PC"

Worldwide Campaign Debuts September 16 and Features Connected CD ROMs

SANTA CLARA, CALIF. -- September 16, 1996 -- Connecting CD ROMs to the Internet is the theme of Intel’s new worldwide consumer advertising campaign, named “The Pentium® Processor Connected PC.” The campaign was created by Dahlin Smith White/Euro RSCG (Salt Lake City, UT). The TV campaign debuts September 16 in the U.S. and runs through December 1996.

For the first time Intel TV spots will feature connected CD-ROMs, CD ROMs which help users access select content on the Internet.

“With this advertising campaign we want to showcase the newest breed of software that runs great on Pentium processor-based PCs, connected CD ROMs,” said Ann Lewnes, Intel’s director of worldwide advertising. “With connected CD ROMs, a user gets a rich multimedia experience via CD ROM, which is enhanced by access to relevant and timely information on the Internet.”

“The Pentium Processor Connected PC” Campaign

Actively showcasing Pentium processor-based PCs for the best experience with connected CD-ROMs, thirty-second television spots, print and online ads feature key applications which consumers will find especially compelling.

Two TV spots entitled “Doors” highlight the connected CD-ROM applications -- Frommer’s Interactive Travel Guide*, and Monopoly Interactive*. With Frommer’s Interactive Travel Guide’s virtual tour through San Francisco, a user can view the sights and sounds of San Francisco on a CD ROM and then use the Internet link (via an Internet service provider) to connect to select hotels’ Web sites to book a hotel room. With Monopoly Interactive from Parker Brothers/Westwood Studios, players can actually play one another on the Internet.

The TV campaign launches on September 16 and will run on prime-time programs, including established hits like ER, Seinfeld, Frasier, Homicide (all NBC), Ellen (ABC) and the X Files (Fox) as well as new programs like NBC’s Men Behaving Badly and ABC’s Spin City. The spots will also air on late-night television, news, cable and sports programming.

A “Pentium Processor Connected PC” consumer print ad will complement the TV campaign and breaks in September in publications such as Newsweek, The New Yorker, Bon Appetit, Architectural Digest, National Geographic, Discover Magazine, Smithsonian, Home PC, Family PC and Computer Life. Ads will also break in publications in Asia, Europe, Canada and Brazil.

Both TV and print ads highlight Intel’s home page address.
