A major focus of our outreach and giving programs is on education, learning, and technology literacy programs. Intel vigorously supports our schools--with special emphasis on math, science, and engineering education. The company provides grants of money and equipment, and supports a robust volunteer effort in the schools and other community organizations through "Intel Involved." Intel is especially dedicated to inspiring and cultivating the interest of females and underrepresented minorities in math, science and engineering careers.

National Outreach
Some of our national programs are:

• Starbright Foundation
  This Foundation is a partnership among the technology, entertainment and healthcare worlds to allow critically ill children to communicate and play with one another in a broadband computer network right from their hospital beds. The Starbright Network features high-speed Pentium® processor-based PCs enabled with ProShare(TM), Intel's state-of-the-art videoconferencing system. This outlet for communication and fun gives children a needed distraction during difficult times.
  On June 15, Intel was one of the corporate sponsors for a sneak preview of Jurassic Park the Ride, a fund-raising event for the STARBRIGHT Foundation at Universal Studios, Hollywood. The ride opened to the public the following weekend. Celebrities were on hand as Foundation Chairman Stephen Spielberg and General Norman Schwartzkopf demonstrated STARBRIGHT World to the crowd. • The Journey Inside
  This program, with its accompanying "Edu-Kit," is a national education initiative designed to increase technology literacy among middle school students and inspire them to learn more about the science behind computers. The teachers who order the free kits learn how to integrate science and technology lessons into their core curriculum in order to familiarize students with computers.
  
• SeniorNet
  Intel provides high-speed multimedia computers to SeniorNet Learning Centers around the country. Both organizations are dedicated to teaching senior citizens how to use today's newest technology and to bringing the benefits of technology to this growing segment of the population.

Intel sites around the world contribute funding and employee time to local non-profit organizations in support of community activities. Each activity is designed to improve the quality of life in the community. We actively participate in local efforts in such areas as education and youth-at-risk programs, environmental initiatives, summer programs for students and faculty, and other efforts that address the issues and concerns of the local community. Some examples are:

• K-12 Education Program
  Intel's K-12 program was established to increase math, science, and technology literacy in our site community schools and to help develop a future workforce that reflects the diversity of those communities. Employee involvement as well as focused monetary and equipment donations are keys to the success of this program. For example:
  • Volunteer Matching Grants Program
    Through this program Intel donates $500 to schools for every 100 hours of volunteer time donated by Intel employees.
  • Computer Donations
    Intel regularly donates new and used hardware to local schools at Intel's major domestic sites.
  • Teacher Training
    Intel sponsors summer camps for local community educators, so that teachers can be up-to-date with the latest innovations in science and technology, and therefore be able to teach more effectively.
