Simplifying Enterprise Management

The Web-Based Enterprise Management effort intends to provide an industry-standard base for reducing the costs and complexity of enterprise management. The effort--launched on July 17, 1996 by Intel, BMC Software, Cisco, Compaq and Microsoft--is open to wide industry participation. The goal is to allow administrators to use any Web browser to manage their disparate systems, networks, and applications.

Further Reducing the Total Cost of Ownership

The Web-Based Enterprise Management effort underscores Intel's commitment to helping customers further reduce the total cost of ownership of high-performance, connected PCs by proving building blocks and solutions for powerful, standards-based management. The effort is designed to integrate existing standards--such as the Desktop Management Interface (DMI) for desktops and servers, the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) for networks, and the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) for communication over the Internet--into an architecture that can be managed using any Web browser.
