Intel Processor Technology
Performance
- VTune, Intel’s Visual Tuning Environment, is
designed to provide a system-wide view of your Windows* 95 or Windows NT
system. With color-coded, graphical, point-and-click interface, context-sensitive
online documentation, and sophisticated database technology, VTune brings
ease-of-use to the task of performance analysis.
- Test results of traditional benchmarks are available for the Pentium
processor in the
Intel Pentium Processor Performance Brief, V3.2.
Technical Information
- The MultiProcessor Specification Version 1.4 defines a
standard interface between the hardware and the OS, making it easy for the
OSVs and OEMs to quickly support a wide range of multiprocessor platforms
with one OS version.
- The Pentium®
Pro Processor BIOS Writer's Guide V2.0 (Adobe Acrobat
format, 255K) provides OEMs and BIOS developers with the BIOS design
information needed to develop a system based upon the Pentium pro
processor. This document is a supplement to other manuals for the
Pentium Pro processor and 82450 PCIset.
- The CPUID Application Note provides
information about the CPUID instruction and its use in high-end Intel
microprocessors.
- The application note entitled Optimizations
for Intel's 32-Bit Processors describes the optimization strategy
that gives the best performance for all members of the Intel microprocessor
family.
Tools and Utilities
- The CPUINFO DLL
(Dynamic link library) self-extracting ZIP file provides
processor detection tools for Microsoft Windows developers. It permits applications
to call the CPUID instruction and check CPU clock speed. The file includes
source and executables for both 16 and 32 bit. Read the
description
and extraction instructions before downloading.
