The Intel OverDrive® processors are end-user processor upgrades designed for upgradable Intel486(TM) and Pentium® processor-based systems. OverDrive processors provide an increase in the overall performance of today's sophisticated and complex software applications.
Like the Pentium processor, the Pentium OverDrive processors feature:
IntelDX4(TM) OverDrive processors:
For those unable to upgrade with the Pentium OverDrive processor, the IntelDX4(TM) OverDrive processor is the recommended option for upgradable Intel486 processor-based PC's. It features Intel's speed tripling technology, along with an on-chip math coprocessor and enhanced 16Kbyte cache. Two versions of the IntelDX4 OverDrive processor are available for Intel486 SX and DX processor-based systems: the 75-MHz IntelDX4 OverDrive processors for 20/25-MHz systems and the 100-MHz IntelDX4 OverDrive processors for 33-MHz systems.
For Pentium Processor-based system designs:
For Pentium Pro Processor-based system designs:
For new Pentium processor designs, the OEM should design in Socket 7 for the maximum flexibility in upgrades. Socket 7 will permit the end user to upgrade to the highest performance Pentium OverDrive processor. Refer to the Pentium Processor 75/90/120/133 MHz datasheet, for the OverDrive Processor Socket Specification.
For Pentium Pro processors-based system designs, the OEM should design to the Socket 8 specifications. Refer to the Pentium Pro Processor at 150 MHz datasheet, Chapter 8 for the OverDrive Processor Socket Specification.
Intel OverDrive processors increase the speed and performance of all software applications. The iCOMP® Index shows how much processing power is gained by adding an OverDrive processor. To see the performance gained by adding an OverDrive processor running commonly used Business and Home software check out the performance report.
