genlock

A device that superimposes video over graphics. Genlocks often use the background pen for the video overlay.

GIGO

Garbage In, Garbage Out, a software technique that describes a mishandled routine that is not performing correctly or that purposely returns inaccurate information.

global variable

A variable that is accesible in the current shell and in any other shells.

gradient

A pattern using a range of colors or shades, providing a smooth dithered transition.

grid snap

The process of rounding off a value due to the inability of a mouse or other controller to maintain accuracy on highly detailed images or modelers. Causes the unit of editing an image or 3D object to work in predefined increments, allowing for more accurate work.

ground

The surface of the Earth and the layers underneath. 1. The process of allowing electricity to safely travel to an electrically stable object in order to avoid electrical faults. 2. The surface plane in a 3D world, often found beneath the camera when in an upright position. The area directly beneath the camera is known as the nadir, and the point at which the ground meets the sky is the horizon.
